Job summary

Greater Wichita YMCA is seeking a Lead Camp Program Instructor to direct program staff in the setup, execution, and cleanup of camp activities according to the written program plan, ensuring a safe environment for participants.

The role requires close adherence to the written program schedule and strong leadership to coach and referee activities, while communicating with campers and applying KDHE/YMCA guidelines. This position is based at our Kansas facility.

Responsibilities

• Developing and maintaining personal relationships that inspire trust and support positive connections to the program, branch, and mission of the YMCA.
• Holding staff and volunteers accountable for following program procedures and policies.
• Assisting and guiding staff to support positive behavior management as well as staff and child relationships.
• Reporting any issue or concerns immediately to the direct supervisor.
• Implementing and leading quality camp programs according to written program plans and schedule while maintaining all standards set by KDHE and YMCA.
• Providing information for the camp activity calendar and/or content for camp social media, as requested.
• Being actively engaged with campers, fellow staff members and program activities throughout the session to build relationships with youth and be a role model for all.
• Maintaining behavior documentation as needed and communicating challenges to the direct supervisor when issues impact safety or the quality of the camp program.
• Supervising proper organization, maintenance, and inventory of all program equipment, and supplies.
• Reviewing all emergency and/or medical plans and special needs plans for individual campers; ensuring reasonable accommodations and additional steps are taken to adjust program for inclusion while maintaining the safety of all youth and following up with the direct supervisor as needed.
• Applying program policies and procedures respectfully and firmly when responding to campers, staff, and other camp guests. Making every effort to help participants find success when encountering difficult situations, concerns, or challenges.
• Responding quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents while following YMCA and KDHE reporting policies and submitting all required documentation in a timely manner.
• Providing supply requests to the direct supervisor in a timely manner.
• All other duties as assigned.
• EFFECT ON END RESULT:** Ensuring youth and staff feel positive and look forward to coming to the YMCA program. Ensuring parents are pleased with the growth and development of children, positively affecting overall program success.

• GENERAL FUNCTION:** Under the direction of the Camp Program Director /

Site Director, the Lead Camp Program Instructor will be responsible for directing program staff in the set-up, execution, and clean-up of camp activities according to the written program plan. The Lead Camp Program Instructor will refer participant behavioral management issues and parent communication to the Camp Counselor and direct supervisor.
