Qualifications

  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law; completion with passing grades of at least 12 postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes.
  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization.
  • Health and TB clearance; up-to-date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
  • Criminal records clearance.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides direction for the program and implements program curriculum. Delivers a high quality child development program and mentors entry level teachers and aides. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Implements curriculum and program activities within the established guidelines.
  2. Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
  3. Supervises the children, classroom or site, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
  4. Follows all policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  5. Continuously scans a variety of environments and surrounding areas for potential hazards and takes appropriate action to remove or avoid them and informs senior staff.
  6. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  7. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA.
  8. Uses positive reinforcement techniques to address children’s behavioral concerns.
  9. Mentors aides and entry level teachers.
  10. Maintains program site and equipment.
  11. Maintains required program records.
  12. Mentors a minimum of 1 staff.
  13. Attends staff meetings, trainings and completes all assigned on-line trainings.
  14. Attends and participates in family nights, as well as program activities.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law - completion with passing grades of at least 12 (twelve) postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes. Units specified shall include courses covering child growth and development, or human growth and development; child, family and community, or child and family; and program/curriculum.
  2. Minimum of 6 (six) months of work experience in a licensed Child Care Center or equivalent.
  3. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  4. Knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
  5. All required online training must be completed before starting work.
  6. Mandated reporting course completed within 30 days of hire.
  7. Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps that need to be taken.
  8. Ability to build a relationship with school staff.
  9. Demonstrates initiative to plan, lead and participate in activities.
  10. CPR & First Aid certifications through a nationally recognized organization. Certifications must be maintained and current at all times.
  11. Must have Health and TB clearance.
  12. Must have up to date TDAP, MMR and Influenza vaccinations.
  13. Criminal records clearance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor / indoor settings.
  2. This position may require the ability to stand and / or sit for extended periods of time, wade in water in order to supervise children, able to walk continuously at least ½ mile, spend a full workday outdoors in any weather condition.
  3. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
