Job summary

Tomball Independent School District Transportation is seeking a Lead Bus Mechanic for the 2026-2027 school year to maintain and repair district vehicles and support the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in policy execution. The role requires a strong mechanical background and the ability to work with diagnostic tools and shop equipment.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid CDL with Air Brake, P and S endorsements, and preferably ASE/TASBT Master Technician certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• ASE/TASBT Master Technician certification preferred.
• Capable of obtaining Texas School Bus Driver Certification card; Brake Certification.
• CDL-Class A or B with Air Brake, P and S endorsements required.
• Five years mechanical experience.
• Current training on auto/truck maintenance and repair systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on maintenance equipment and vehicles.
• Assist Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in implementation of district policies and procedures.
• Diagnose and repair district vehicles as needed.
• Maintain orderly and clean assigned shop bay and adjacent area.
• Maintain individual tool box.
• Record repairs performed on vehicles, parts used and time taken to make repairs.
• Perform State Inspections on district owned diesel powered vehicles.
• Operate all shop equipment as necessary.
• Promote safety and report all unsafe conditions.
• Work hours as assigned.
• Perform District-Mandated preventive maintenance on district vehicles as assigned.
• Change buses and route numbers if regularly assigned bus is out of service.
• Comply with safety regulations.
• Make road calls for disabled district vehicles when necessary.
• Perform minor body repair.
• Carry pager/cell phone and be on call for after hour field trips.
• Ability to use fleet management software and assign work orders.
