Job summary

Turner Unified School District 202 in the Transportation Office seeks a Transportation Safety Coordinator/Lead Driver to support the Assistant Supervisor of Transportation. This role focuses on safety trainings, communications, and technology-related tasks for the bus fleet.

The Lead Driver will collaborate with the Transportation Supervisor, staff, and administration, lead bi-monthly driver safety reviews, and ensure adherence to district policies and state regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid Kansas CDL with required endorsements and state driver qualifications.
• CPR and first aid certification.
• Two-hour behind-the-wheel training and agility/reaction tests completed.
• Physical exam required for bus drivers.
• At least one-year driving experience in any motor vehicle across seasons.
• Background in transportation and defensive driving certification.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to research best practices using transportation software.

Responsibilities

• Abide by traffic laws and state school transportation regulations.
• Communicate effectively with Supervisors, staff, and community.
• React to change productively and handle assigned tasks.
• Operate vehicles and equipment as required.
• Inspect buses before/after routes and file inspection forms.
• Knowledge of transportation software and computers.
• Maintain regular attendance and support USD 202 mission.
• Keep bus clean and report unsatisfactory conditions or maintenance needs.
• Assist with driver training and safety meetings.
• Coordinate safety meetings and required staff trainings.
• Train drivers on software and hardware functions.
• Assist with software/hardware updates and maintenance.
