Job summary

Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla, CA, seeks a Building Maintenance Worker to perform inspections, skilled and semi-skilled repairs across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and related systems.

The role coordinates with FM, Husbandry, and Life Support; troubleshoots issues, manages work orders, and may supervise 2nd and 3rd shift staff. Background check and CANRA training/compliance required; weekend hours may be required.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience in semi-skilled building maintenance
• Experience repairing electrical wiring and equipment; installing/maintaining interior and exterior lighting
• Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, painting, and related systems
• Knowledge of safety practices, building codes, and UCSD policies
• Ability to prioritize work and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections and repairs independently or as part of a crew
• Coordinate building and life support system repairs with FM, Husbandry, and Life Support Coordinator
• Troubleshoot maintenance problems and manage computerized work orders
• Provide professional customer service and training to 2nd and 3rd shift staff
• Assist with training, assignment, and review of work tasks to ensure completion
