Job summary

Baltimore City Public Schools is seeking a Senior Building Maintenance Worker I to lead maintenance operations at a large school facility in Baltimore. The role opens buildings, activates HVAC equipment, and ensures safety compliance across systems.

You will guide a team, plan and schedule work, perform preventive maintenance and respond to emergencies, coordinating with vendors as needed. This is a full-time on-site role with union benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Five years building operations and maintenance experience in two or more trades.
• Licenses/certificates may substitute for education or experience.
• Knowledge of maintenance methods and equipment used in building operation.
• Knowledge of safety and preventive maintenance practices.
• Ability to guide and instruct assigned maintenance personnel.
• Ability to implement operations policies and procedures.
• Ability to interact effectively with others.

Responsibilities

• Lead senior or lead capacity in large facilities.
• Provide guidance and instruction to maintenance staff and set work priorities.
• Monitor building operation and conduct inspections of facilities.
• Perform moderately complex preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.
• Submit emergency requisitions and coordinate vendor repairs.
• Repair walls, windows, ceilings, floors, doors, and fixtures.
• Assist journeyman trades personnel and participate in renovations.
• Coordinate evening cleaning assignments.
• Requisition supplies and maintain records.
• Suggest improvements and ensure compliance with policies.
