Vail Resorts is hiring for a Lead Building Maintenance role in the mountains. You will lead and develop the Building Maintenance team, oversee daily operations, and coordinate safety, budgeting, and maintenance tasks to ensure peak guest experience.

The role requires 5+ years in facilities maintenance and 2+ years in leadership, with strong HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry knowledge. Seasonal, full-time hours and competitive wage are offered.

The Lead Building Maintenance is responsible for the daily leadership and operation of the Building Maintenance team, ensuring resort facilities, infrastructure, and equipment are maintained to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and guest experience. This hands-on leadership role combines technical maintenance expertise with people management responsibilities, including scheduling, hiring, coaching, training, budgeting, procurement, and project coordination.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, develops high-performing teams, and drives operational excellence through proactive maintenance programs and sound business decisions.

Job Specifications

Starting Wage: $25.45/hr - $33.93/hr

Employment Type: Winter Seasonal 2026/2027

Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead, schedule, and supervise Building Maintenance team members to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, development, and performance feedback.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and guest service.
  • Coordinate work assignments, labor resources, and emergency response efforts.
Operations & Facility Maintenance
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs for resort facilities, infrastructure, and equipment.
  • Ensure the integrity, safety, and appearance of all assigned resort assets.
  • Collaborate with resort leaders and departments on facility improvement projects.
  • Coordinate contractors, vendors, and service providers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, inspections, and department documentation.
  • Support snow removal and other resort operational needs as required.
  • Assist with department budgeting, forecasting, and expense management.
  • Manage procurement of parts, tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain inventory controls and critical spare parts.
  • Monitor labor, material, and vendor costs while identifying efficiency opportunities.
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all company, OSHA, EPA, state, and federal regulations.
  • Lead department safety initiatives, training, inspections, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain compliance with Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, and other safety programs.
Technical Maintenance
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, appliance, and general building systems.
  • Perform facility repairs including drywall, painting, finish work, and equipment maintenance.
  • Support emergency repairs and after-hours operational needs when necessary.
Job Requirements
  • 5+ years of building, facilities, commercial, hospitality, or resort maintenance experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or crew lead experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general facility maintenance practices.
  • Experience with employee scheduling, workforce planning, and team leadership.
  • Experience with budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and vendor coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Preferred
  • Trade school, technical certification, or degree in a related field.
  • Resort, hospitality, property management, or large-facility maintenance experience.
  • OSHA, EPA, HVAC, electrical, or related certifications.
  • Experience managing capital projects and facility improvement initiatives.
  • Leads through accountability, ownership, and operational excellence.
  • Develops team members through coaching, training, and mentorship.
  • Makes sound operational and financial decisions.

The expected pay range is$25.45/hr - $33.93/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
