Job summary

CBRE is seeking a Chief Building Engineer to perform complex preventive maintenance and repairs on buildings, systems, and equipment. You will lead operations, train staff, and coordinate subcontractors while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

This role requires strong technical knowledge, supervisory experience, and the ability to optimize maintenance plans to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5–8 years of job-related experience; combination of experience and education considered.
• Meet the physical requirements including lifting 50 lbs or more.
• Innovative mindset to develop methods beyond existing solutions.
• Ability to solve unique problems with broad business impact.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
• Advanced math skills for complex calculations.

Responsibilities

• Follow all applicable codes, regulations, and safety directives related to building operations.
• Lead operations, assign work orders, and provide training of coworkers and subcontractors; arrange for subcontractors as needed.
• Consult with clients to schedule preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and plan maintenance programs.
• Inspect building systems (fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing) to ensure operation within design parameters.
• Oversee engineering staff and ensure equipment and space are in good condition.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate assistance as needed.
• Develop new methods to improve department objectives and efficiency.
• Demonstrate expertise across the function and mentor others.
