Job summary

Whataburger is seeking a Lead Build Engineer to architect and oversee build, release, and DevOps practices across our digital platforms. You will guide automation, packaging, and deployment pipelines while ensuring stability and security for enterprise environments.

This role requires leadership in upgrades and large-scale releases, plus collaboration with cross-functional teams. Based at our San Antonio Home Office, you will own mobile release processes and drive efficiency through monitoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 7+ years in build, release, or DevOps engineering.
• Strong expertise in build automation and deployment pipelines.
• Experience with enterprise .NET build and release environments.

Responsibilities

What You Bring to the Table — Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of experience in build, release, or DevOps engineering
• Strong expertise in build automation and deployment pipelines
• Experience supporting enterprise .NET build and release environments
• Proven ability to lead system upgrades and large‑scale releases
• Experience with cloud resource management and production environments
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions
• Demonstrated ownership of operational stability and release quality

• Experience with modern DevOps and CI/CD tooling
• Hands‑on experience with monitoring, alerting, and automation tools
• Exposure to cloud platforms and infrastructure optimization

Where & How You’ll Work

This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. You’ll collaborate with leadership, cross‑functional teams, and external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours for business needs and occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
