Qualifications

• Master's degree in special education required.
• At least five years of experience as a Special Education Teacher and four years as a School Administrator.
• New York State permanent certifications required or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, train, appraise, supervise staff and, when necessary, terminate subordinate staff.
• Oversee daily operation of total program including education, clinical, medical, clerical and maintenance.
• Prepare agency-required program reports.
• Develop, obtain approval of, implement and monitor program budget.
• Approve classroom placements and curriculum design.
• Serve as liaison between parents and school districts.
• Suggest, develop, coordinate and implement program goals.
• Develop and implement program policies and procedures.
• Approve purchase of supplies and equipment for the program.
• Handle communications with community organizations and school districts.
• Facilitate transition of children to next education placement.
• Plan for department development and expansion.
• Develop and implement Quality Assurance for the department.
• Serve as a standing member of Agency-wide committees.
• Keep abreast of changes in the field.
