Job summary

Qualifications

• One year of progressive experience in mechanical maintenance or boiler operation.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Operate and supervise the operation of steam boilers and related equipment for facility heating and utilities.
• Lead operator on a medium- to large-sized steam plant.
• Start up and shut down boilers and monitor performance for safe operation.
• Record pressure, temperature, water level, fuel use, and other readings.
• Conduct water testing and chemical treatment for boiler water quality.
• Perform routine inspections of boilers, pumps, valves, piping, and related equipment.
• Troubleshoot problems and take corrective action to prevent failures.
• Provide preventive maintenance and minor repairs; assist with major repairs and replacements.
