AbbVie Inc. in North Chicago, IL seeks a Principal Research Scientist I to lead biologics drug product formulation and process development.

You will supervise a small team and drive scale-up and technology transfer across internal and external sites, coordinating with discovery, analytics, and pilot plants. The role requires deep experience in biologics, parenteral products, and regulatory-aligned development, with emphasis on cross-functional leadership and innovative formulation strategies.

Qualifications

• BS, MS or PhD in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related disciplines with 14+ (Bachelors), 12+ (Masters), or 6+ (PhD) years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience with biologics drug product formulation development and sterile parenteral products.

Responsabilités

• Act as the DP Team Lead in cross-functional settings and represent Bio DPD in PPDST and CMC teams.
• Serve as a technical expert in ultra-high concentration co-formulation and product development.
• Lead design and execution of biologics drug product formulation, process development, characterization and robustness studies.
• Lead drug product process scale-up and technology transfer to internal and external sites.
• Communicate development plans, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders and management.
• Initiate and support scientific initiatives to drive innovation and improve processes.
• Supervise a team of 2-3 scientists.
