Job summary

Proper Voltage in Carlsbad, CA is seeking a technical leader to own testing and validation of our Critical Power battery backup platform for data centers, hospitals, and telecom sites.

You will define test strategy from cell to rack, drive cross‑functional work, and deliver clear conclusions to de-risk the product under tight timelines. This is a hands‑on, technically driven role focusing on reliability and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience in battery testing across cells, modules, or packs.
• Experience as the technical lead for a testing or validation effort: setting strategy, defining standards, and making the calls others build on.
• Experience owning test plans from concept through final report.
• Experience taking products from prototype design and testing into production.
• Fabrication ability across lab and machine shop; be ready to show something you built.
• Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, or comparable tools for data analysis.
• Ability to stay organized and triage issues and blockers across a broad test program in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Own testing and validation for Critical Power from cell to rack against requirements.
• Set system-level test strategy and drive issues to resolution.
• Define and run cell-, module-, pack-, rack-level tests: capacity, rate, aging, DCIR, abuse, EMC.
• Own safety/reliability program: thermal runaway, propagation, and abuse applicable to stationary backup installations.
• Manage full lifecycle schedule from R&D to production ramp across new chemistries and form factors.
• Escalation point for test-methodology and sign-off with engineering leadership.
• Design/build test hardware when off-the-shelf doesn’t fit: fixtures, enclosures, busbars, cooling setups.
• Turn test data into conclusions that shape design, architecture, and platform decisions.
• Coordinate with design, systems, production, and external test houses to align scope with schedule.
• Maintain lab standards, calibration, and safety; mentor test engineers toward ownership.
