Job summary

SpaceXAI seeks a Lead Engineer for Battery Storage to design, build, operate, and maintain high-capacity power systems for AI training campuses. Based in Memphis, TN, you will lead a small on-site team, owning architecture, sizing, controls, and safety programs for campus-scale storage while coordinating with OEMs and internal stakeholders.

You will drive grid-forming control strategies, EMS specifications, and lifecycle planning, including field testing and compliance with NFPA 855 and UL

Qualifications

• 8+ years in power systems engineering.
• 4+ years directly on utility-scale or large commercial and industrial battery energy storage.
• Experience leading an engineering team and coordinating multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Own storage fleet architecture, sizing, controls, safety case, and grid-forming behavior.
• Define BESS packing, topology, protection, and physical layout per NFPA 855.
• Translate compute duty cycles into power/energy requirements.
• Develop plant controller/EMS specs: dispatch, SOc management, peak shaving, islanding.
• Ensure fire/life-safety compliance incl. UL 9540/9540A and AHJ engagement.
• Manage OEM relationships and testing; coordinate cross-functional seats.
