Job summary

GEICO is seeking a lead Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain GEICO's core billing platform. You will help re-architect a scalable, distributed system spanning invoicing, commissions, collections, payments, CRM integration, subscriptions, and reporting.

The role requires 8+ years of hands-on development, strong Java/Kotlin/Golang skills, cloud/DevOps expertise, and collaboration across teams. Hybrid work from Palo Alto, Dallas or Chevy Chase is offered.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience architecting large-scale, complex systems.
• Proficient in Java, Kotlin, Golang for high-performance production code.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL, Kafka, Spark, Airflow or equivalents.
• Cloud computing across the SDLC with DevOps, observability, telemetry, and test automation.
• Strong collaboration across engineering and other functions to align on technical vision.

Responsibilities

• Oversee high-level and low-level designs of billing sub-systems.
• Ensure quality, reliability, usability, and performance of solutions.
• Provide technical guidance for multiple billing teams and align with platform goals.
• Lead design and development of scalable, maintainable software systems; evaluate code quality with stakeholders.
• Identify technical risks and develop efficient solutions to keep product development on track.
• Collaborate with product management and design for cohesive delivery.
• Mentor engineers and promote continuous learning within the team.
