Job summary

CHAOS Industries in Los Angeles seeks a Principal Autonomy Software Engineer to lead the autonomy stack for our distributed defense systems, turning sensor data into actionable decisions and setting the technical direction from prototype to fielded systems.

You’ll partner with hardware, RF/signals, systems, and product teams to define strategy, own end-to-end autonomy software across multi-sensor fusion, world-modeling, and real-time planning on edge hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Robotics/Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Hands‑on track record designing and shipping autonomy/robotics software on real hardware.
• Expert level in C++/Rust and Python with real‑time, safety‑critical systems.
• Strong background in probabilistic estimation, sensor fusion, planning algorithms.
• Experience with ROS/ROS2 and simulation tooling, and live data from EO/IR/Radar/LiDAR.

Responsibilities

• Own the autonomy software architecture end to end across multi‑sensor fusion and world modeling.
• Define strategy and roadmap for autonomy across products, aligning hard trade‑offs.
• Build and productionize autonomy software for edge hardware in the field.
• Lead and mentor engineers through design reviews and hands‑on collaboration.
• Translate operational needs into robust autonomy requirements and tests.
