Job summary

CHAOS is seeking a Principal Autonomy Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of autonomy platforms that sense, reason, and act in contested environments. You will own multi-sensor fusion, world-modeling, and real-time decision-making across distributed nodes.

You will define strategy, build production-grade autonomy software for edge hardware, and mentor engineers while coordinating with hardware, RF, and systems teams to deliver robust autonomy solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Hands-on track record designing and shipping autonomy or robotics software in real hardware
• Expert-level proficiency in C++/RUST and Python for real-time, safety-critical systems
• Ownership of complex systems from concept through deployment and production

Responsibilities

• Own the autonomy software architecture end to end across multi-sensor fusion and world-modeling
• Define technical strategy and roadmap for autonomy across products
• Build and productionize autonomy software for edge hardware
• Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, and safety of autonomous behavior
• Technically lead and mentor other engineers across teams
• Translate operational needs into autonomy requirements
• Stand up simulation, test, and evaluation pipelines
• Office and lab environment with travel to test sites and CHAOS offices
