Job summary

Genentech, Inc. is seeking a technical lead for Lab Automation to own the physical platform architecture within the Roche Autonomous Lab Accelerator. You will translate scientific workflows into scalable automation, integrating robotics, instruments, and control software for autonomous operation.

The role partners with Lab Operations and CS CoE to ensure robust, maintainable platforms with clear ownership and lifecycle management, including post-deployment support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in engineering, computer science, life sciences, or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture of the physical execution platform across instruments, robotics and lab systems.
• Translate scientific requirements into automatable unit operations, equipment needs, and sample/material flows.
• Define interfaces and execution sequences to enable unattended, robust automation.
• Lead technical selection, integration, commissioning, and verification of robotics and instruments.
• Partner with Lab Operations to ensure smooth operational handoff and post-deployment maintenance.
