Job summary

Buncombe County Government is seeking a Lead Mechanic in the County Garage to maintain and repair a fleet of gasoline and alternative fueled vehicles. You will follow a task list, perform diagnostics, oil changes, brake work, tire rotations, and keep records in the computer system.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, 5 years of progressive repair experience, valid NC driver’s license and NC Inspection license; EPA certification may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 5+ years of progressive repair experience.
• Experience repairing gasoline and alternatively fueled vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license and NC Vehicle Inspection license; EPA certification may be required.
• Completion of Safety Training post hire.
• Ability to follow a task list and record work on a computer.

Responsibilities

• Maintain county vehicles and ensure they are safe and in good working order.
• Perform diagnostics and maintenance per scheduler; inspections per state licensing.
• Lead training and provide supervision when supervisor is absent.
• Follow safety procedures when operating tools and machinery.
