Job summary

Lutron Electronics is seeking a Principal Automation Engineer at its Global Headquarters in Coopersburg, PA. Lead the architecture, design, and deployment of automated systems across the production environment to boost throughput, quality, and efficiency.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams and third-party integrators, driving standards, ROI analyses, and automation investments while advancing safety and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field.
• 12+ years of automation engineering experience with hands-on work in custom automation.
• GPA 3.00 across all degrees.
• Experience overseeing automation projects with full lifecycle ownership.
• Strong understanding of industrial safety standards (ISO, IEC, ANSI, NFPA).
• Proven ability to drive cross-functional technical discussions and influence decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and validation of custom automated machinery and robotic cells.
• Architect control systems involving PLCs, motion control, robotics, machine vision, and safety.
• Define automation standards and design methodologies for scalability.
• Lead large automation projects from concept through start-up at the destination facility.
• Develop specs, system layouts, risk assessments, and FAT/SAT plans.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in robotics and controls.
