Job summary

Wayne-Sanderson Farms is seeking a Hatchery worker responsible for performing a variety of duties within the hatchery and assisting hourly team members. Must always use and maintain PPE, and work in compliance with company policies and animal welfare guidelines as well as local, state and federal laws.

Responsibilities include assisting the Hatchery Supervisor, training staff, handling eggs and chicks, operating line equipment, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment.

  • Previous hatchery experience.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Must always use and maintain personal protective equipment, and work in compliance with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
  • Assist Hatchery Supervisor in safety processes, and operation and observation of hatchery operations.
  • Train and assist hatchery employees.
  • Place eggs in incubator trays, and place baskets into hatchers.
  • Pull and push buggies.
  • Place trays of chicks on line.
  • Clean and sanitize machines, floors, drains, baskets, buggies, etc.
  • Comply with all company policies, NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines, and local, state and federal laws, and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Previous hatchery experience.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate.
  • Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character.
  • Basic math functions and skills.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Stand up to 8 hours and lift up to 60 lbs.
  • Frequent exposure to heat (incubators are 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Exposure to wet and dusty environment.
  • Frequently stoops, kneels, crawls and bends.
  • Roll and push buggies (~1,000 lbs.).
  • Work around raw, live animal odors.
