Job summary

Apple Valley Waste is seeking a CDL Automated Side Load Driver in Mount Airy, MD. The role involves operating a residential truck with ASL equipment on assigned routes, ensuring safe, timely collection of waste and recyclables while complying with DOT and company policies.

The driver will perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, navigate using route systems, and maintain professional interactions with customers. Strong driving history and ability to endure outdoor conditions are required.

Qualifications

• Valid Class B (or higher) CDL with air-brake endorsement as required by state/local regulations.
• 1-2 years of commercial driving experience; refuse/automation experience preferred.
• Experience operating automated side-load equipment from the cab.
• Driving record meets company and insurance standards.
• Able to pass background checks, drug/alcohol screens, and DOT physical.
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Frequent climbing in/out of cab; lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Typical 10-11 hour days with early start; overtime and weekends possible.

Responsibilities

• Operate a residential refuse truck with ASL to collect carts on routes.
• Use joystick/control to lift and dump carts into hopper with eyes-forward operation.
• Follow route sheets and maps to complete stops within timeframes.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings and obstacles.
• Handle extra or bulky items per guidelines and regulations.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report defects.
• Monitor cart condition and contamination issues; notify dispatch.
• Adhere to DOT regulations and safety rules, PPE use.
• Interact professionally with customers and address questions politely.
• Complete paperwork and logs such as route sheets and tickets.
