Job summary

National Grid in the United States is seeking a Lead Solution Architect to manage requirements, scope, and the development of solution options across programs.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of enterprise software development experience.
  • 5 years in an Architect's role delivering medium to large solutions.
  • 2 years data/information modeling using ERDs and dimensional models.
  • 2 years middleware and architectural design patterns.
  • Experience with Agile and traditional project life cycle.
  • Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of all solution architecture activities across a program.

What you’ll do

As a Lead Solution Architect, you will manage the requirements and scope of projects and programs and the development of and the quality of solution options, including the following responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for delivery of all solution architecture activities across a program of work.
  • You will lead development of solution architectures, ensuring consistency with specified requirements agreed with both external and internal customers.
  • You will take full responsibility for ensuring that solution architectures balance functional, service quality and systems management requirements.
  • You will ensure that appropriate standards are adhered to, meeting the program’s target design, policies and standards, working proactively to achieve a stable and viable design.
  • You will communicate the technical design of a significant program and the rationale driving that design within the architecture and wider community.
  • You will co-ordinate design activity within a program, acting as custodian of plans for the infrastructure.
  • You will take responsibility for the technical integrity of projects, ensuring that common technical elements are recognized, and that work is not unnecessarily duplicated. Assists in the development of service level agreements and any associated service guarantees.
  • You will advise on appropriate quality standards and quality control processes and attend quality reviews as appropriate.

What you’ll need

  • 3-5 years of software development and/or support experience at an enterprise level
  • 5 years of experience in an Architect’s role delivering medium to large solutions.
  • 2 years of experience delivering conceptual, logical, physical data/information models using techniques or patterns that include normalized entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs), dimensional models
  • 2 years of experience that take advantage of one or more custom or off-the-shelf middleware and technical architecture and design patterns
  • Experience with Agile and traditional methodologies for the full project life cycle
  • Educated to degree level in Computer Science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

It would be awesome if you had

  • 2 years of experience delivering secure and trusted systems with Authentication and Authorization features:
  • 3 years in one or more programming or markup language such as Apex, SOQL, JavaScript, Java, HTML, CSS, SQL, PHP, Asp.Net, C#, C
  • Relevant industry certification (e.g.TOGAF)
  • Stakeholder management experience influencing skills covering colleagues, partners / vendors and project sponsors.
  • Experience taking an active role in the development of other staff through mentoring of more junior resources.

Salary

$115,000 – $150,000 a year

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation (“DOT”) covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
