AVANGRID SERVICE COMPANY is seeking a Lead Architect - Generative AI to drive the development of AI platforms and AI-native solutions. You will own the technical foundation powering secure, scalable AI experiences across Avangrid’s digital operations, collaborating with business units to align AI initiatives with strategic goals.

You will lead architecture, governance, and deployment of AI systems, continuously improving performance, safety, and regulatory compliance while guiding teams through

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline with 10+ years of professional experience; or a Master's degree with 7+ years of experience.
• 5-7 years of experience in a senior engineering or technical leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience as an expert in software development, leveraging Agile DevOps practices for CI/CD.
• Proven track record of building and deploying AI-powered systems or workflow automation solutions in a production environment.
• Experience with Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic direction for engineering and digital operations, ensuring alignment between AI advancements and business goals.
• Design and optimize how AI agents reason, retrieve information, and act within production systems.
• Architect how AI agents connect to external enterprise systems, defining authentication patterns, error handling, and data transformation standards.
• Develop systematic approaches to versioning, A/B testing, and performance evaluation to ensure consistency and accuracy across various AI scenarios.
• Provide expert guidance on generative AI best practices, advanced technologies, and emerging trends.
• Oversee the design and implementation of high-quality AI solutions, from ideation to production-grade deployment.
• Establish the technical guardrails and safety frameworks required to prevent unintended AI behaviors and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Implement the observability layer to turn AI system behavior into actionable insights.
• Lead efforts to reduce technical debt while ensuring AI systems remain reliable during peak seasons.
• Support the deployment of automated workflows and AI-powered applications enterprise-wide.
• Partner with business unit leaders to translate pain points into scalable AI use cases.
• Communicate AI strategy and progress to executive leadership.
