Job summary

JMT is seeking a Principal Investigator (Archaeologist) to lead Phase I-III fieldwork in Texas and surrounding states, manage small to medium projects, and contribute to archaeological reporting and proposal development.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in anthropology, 5+ years’ CRM experience, leadership roles, and familiarity with NHPA Section 106 and the Texas Antiquities Code; strong writing and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in anthropology or a closely related field.
• Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.
• 5+ years of experience (CRM experience preferred).
• At least 3 of those years need to involve leadership positions.
• Familiarity with Section 106 of NHPA and with the Antiquities Code of Texas.
• Ability to obtain a Texas Antiquities Permit.
• Regional (Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana) experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience in Phase I-III fieldwork.
• Must be able to provide a writing sample from thesis, dissertation, or archaeological report.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Experience with Federal Agencies and Tribal Nations.
• Provide a list of at least 3 professional references with contact information.

Responsibilities

• Conducts archaeological field work and identifies artifacts/sites.
• Collects data and field samples during investigations.
• Analyzes historic and prehistoric artifacts and features.
• Documents methodologies and findings of research.
• Writes portions of archaeological reports and site forms.
• Assists in project decisions and adverse effect resolutions.
• Coordinates with field, lab, and office staff to meet standards.
• Assists in proposals, budgets, and marketing materials.
