Job summary

Southeastern Archaeological Research, LLC. is seeking a Lead Archaeologist for a full-time role in the Continental US. The position leads teams conducting Phase I–III studies, overseeing pre-field research, fieldwork, artifact analysis, and reports under project leadership.

The role emphasizes supervision, project planning, health and safety, and ensuring quality control across field activities. Travel and coordination with stakeholders are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• Completion of an accredited archaeological field school.
• Minimum of two (2) years of professional archaeological field experience.
• At least one (1) year of supervisory experience in the field.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to obtain government security clearance.
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Identify and target locations of enhanced site probability based on cultural, geological, and environmental features.
• Lead field teams and ensure adherence to health and safety plans.
• Revise field methodology to meet project goals in consultation with leadership.
• Conduct pre-field background research and prepare project summaries.
• Perform Phase I–III archaeological surveys, testing, and excavations.
• Coordinate with contractors and monitor fieldwork when required.
• Provide in-field supervision to Archaeological staff and ensure progress reporting.
