Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Manager, Applications & Data Systems on the UT Main Campus to lead Python/Django web applications, survey and data systems, and data-exchange environments as part of a modernization effort.

You will provide hands-on technical leadership, mentor staff, and ensure secure, scalable solutions for institution-facing services and analytics. This exempt role requires collaboration with AWS/IT teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or related field; 5+ years of professional software development.
• Experience developing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting production Python/Django apps.
• Experience with relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Experience integrating systems via APIs, scheduled processes, authentication and RBAC, file exchanges or webhooks.
• Experience integrating web apps with analytics, BI, or embedded dashboards.
• Experience using Git, code review, automated tests, and production release practices.
• Experience owning inherited apps/data environments and mentoring others.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, test, document, and deploy secure Python/Django apps and APIs.
• Provide technical leadership across applications, databases, survey platforms, and integrations.
• Improve connections among apps, databases, and workflows for maintainability and data consistency.
• Analyze processes with staff to deliver solutions for surveys, events, analytics, and operations.
• Supervise and mentor junior IT staff; establish development and testing standards; maintain documentation.
