Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Full Stack Cloud Architect / Systems Engineering Lead to guide the migration of on-prem applications to AWS and to oversee mission-critical web applications. You will lead system design, decomposition, and stakeholder communications in a dynamic lab environment.

The role requires strong AWS experience, full-stack development skills, API design, and mentoring capabilities, with a focus on secure, scalable architectures across cloud and on-prem

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science, applied science, or engineering.
• Three years of relevant professional work experience.
• Three years of experience architecting with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Experience migrating applications from on-prem to cloud.
• Experience developing or architecting full‑stack web applications.
• Experience designing/maintaining formal APIs and interface specifications.
• Experience with modern web stacks ( frontend: React/Angular/Vue; backend: Flask/Django/Express; servers: Apache/nginx).
• Ability to design, develop, evaluate, and support large, complex systems.
• Strong communication skills with stakeholders of varying backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Elicit system scope and requirements from stakeholders for system designs.
• Lead development and evaluation of the system architecture, including scope, components, and interfaces.
• Communicate work processes, products, and results to stakeholders with documentation and briefs.
• Participate in Agile backlog management and project decomposition.
• Coordinate with stakeholders throughout the system life cycle from definition to deployment.
• Provide engineering estimates, guide project schedules, and identify dependencies.
• Conduct engineering evaluations such as risk and reliability analyses.
• Mentor junior developers and students.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
