Job summary

University of Texas on the Austin campus seeks a Manager, Applications & Data Systems to lead the technical direction for CCCSE’s web applications, surveys, data systems, and databases. This role centers on the Python/Django platform, APIs, and integrations with emphasis on security and scalable data access.

Responsibilities include designing and deploying secure applications, providing portfolio leadership, coordinating with AWS/University infrastructure, and mentoring staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field, plus at least five years of progressively responsible professional software-development experience.
• Experience developing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting production Python and Django applications, including secure, database-driven web applications and modern front-end technologies.
• Experience designing, querying, and optimizing applications that use relational database platforms (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Experience integrating systems through APIs, scheduled processes, authentication and RBAC, imports/exports, file exchanges, webhooks, etc.
• Experience using Git, code review, automated testing, and production release practices, and coordinating with infrastructure or cloud admins.
• Experience owning inherited applications or data environments and providing mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, test, document, and deploy secure Python/Django applications, APIs, and integrations for CCCSE operations and services.
• Provide technical portfolio leadership across applications, databases, survey platforms, and data exchanges, resolving complex integration issues.
• Coordinate with AWS and University infrastructure teams and lead modernization, continuity, and data-consistency improvements.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff; establish development/testing standards; maintain documentation to reduce single-point dependency.
