Job summary

U.S. Bank seeks a Senior API Platform Engineer to lead enterprise API initiatives across Apigee OPDK, Apigee Hybrid on Azure, and Apollo GraphQL. You will design secure, scalable API gateway solutions and modernize platform architectures.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Architects, Security, and Infrastructure, and implement robust API security (OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS) while advancing AI-driven practices in a large enterprise environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
• At least 7 years of experience within a total information technology (IT) environment
• At least 7 years of experience with the design, development and support of technology infrastructure
• Hands-on experience with API management and enterprise platforms is preferred
• Strong automation and DevSecOps skills across CI/CD and infrastructure as code

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical SME for our enterprise API ecosystem, leading engineering efforts across Apigee OPDK, Apigee Hybrid (Azure), and Apollo GraphQL platforms.
• Design and deliver secure, scalable API gateway solutions supporting critical business applications.
• Lead API platform modernization efforts including migrations from Apigee On-Prem to Apigee Hybrid and cloud-native adoption.
• Drive GraphQL platform strategy, architecture, and optimization using Apollo Federation, Router, and schema governance.
• Implement enterprise API security controls including OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, traffic management, and governance standards.
• Automate platform deployments and operations using GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Helm, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Improve platform reliability through monitoring, observability, incident response, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
• Partner with Architects, Security, Infrastructure, and Development teams while mentoring engineers and advancing AI-driven engineering practices.
