Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking an experienced API Platform Engineer to lead engineering across Apigee OPDK, Apigee Hybrid on Azure, and Apollo GraphQL. You will design secure, scalable gateways, govern GraphQL schemas, and implement robust API security.

The role involves automating deployments with GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Helm, Ansible, and IaC, while mentoring teams. The position requires 7+ years in IT and a deep background in API platforms, cloud-native infrastructure, and observability practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.
• At least 7 years of experience within a total information technology (IT) environment.
• At least 7 years of experience with the design, development and support of technology infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical SME for our enterprise API ecosystem.
• Lead engineering across Apigee OPDK, Apigee Hybrid (Azure), and Apollo GraphQL platforms.
• Design and deliver secure, scalable API gateway solutions for critical applications.
• Migrate Apigee On-Prem to Apigee Hybrid and drive cloud-native platform adoption.
• Drive GraphQL platform strategy, architecture, and governance with Apollo Federation, Router, and schema governance.
• Implement enterprise API security controls including OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, traffic management, and governance standards.
• Automate platform deployments and operations using GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Helm, Ansible, and IaC.
• Improve platform reliability through monitoring, observability, incident response, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
• Collaborate with Architects, Security, Infrastructure, and Development teams; mentor engineers.
