Job summary

Speechify seeks a Team Lead for the Android Core product in Baton Rouge, LA, with remote work options. You will own major features from concept to release, mentor teammates, and drive reliable, high-quality Android experiences for our Text-to-Speech apps across platforms.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong Kotlin engineering skills, experience with MVVM and Clean Architecture, and a track record of delivering usable, scalable Android features.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on.
• Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
• Understanding tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, collaborating with design and release plans.
• Maintain, improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests with constructive feedback.
• Unblock the team when blockers occur and drive timely decisions.
• Push changes so the team uses the best version and reduces fragmentation.
• Keep shared components tested and maintainable for future use.
• Plan iterations to focus on decisions and reduce manual steps in releases.
• Balance code ownership with team-wide improvements and AI-assisted workflows.
