Job summary

AV in the United States seeks a Lead Airworthiness & Safety Engineer to guide airworthiness and product safety across the UAS lifecycle. You will craft certification strategies, manage compliance plans, and coordinate with military and civil authorities to enable flight releases and continued airworthiness.

You will collaborate with engineering groups, customers, and regulators to address requirements, provide risk-based solutions, and drive safety improvements that meet program goals.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Engineering required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Minimum of 8+ years of directly related experience
• At least 4 years of relevant experience in Airworthiness related work
• Experienced in and has demonstrated strong systems engineering background
• Experienced working in a highly technical, fast-paced environment with both Domestic and International customers
• Has a detailed understanding of Military, FAA, EU, NATO, and EASA airworthiness and certification processes and standards
• Understanding of US Government and international safety requirements (UL, CE, REACH, RoHS, etc)
• Has a proven track record of performance on successful programs
• Experience communicating with executive level management, Customers, and Customer AW authorities
• Takes initiative to own tasks and can perform with little/no daily management or oversight

Responsibilities

• Develops airworthiness and product safety plans and strategies
• Support product requirements development based on market and regulatory needs
• Develop verification plans and means of compliance for certifications
• Ensure airworthiness into UAS solutions to meet program objectives
• Coordinate with engineering disciplines across lifecycle
• Collaborate with military and civil airworthiness authorities for certification
• Facilitate design changes to satisfy certification and safety
• Support Field Service Bulletins and Problem Reports related to airworthiness
• Track improvements that add airworthiness value
• Participate with senior managers to set strategic plans
• Lead airworthiness efforts with cross-functional teams
• Support audits and RFIs/RFPs related to AW and safety
• Communicate AV's AW and Safety positions to customers and regulators
