Job summary

Yahoo Holdings Inc. is seeking a Principal Research Scientist to lead DSP optimization, budgeting, pacing, and bidding algorithms in a hybrid work model. You will guide AI-assisted research-to-production loops and shape the strategic direction of the optimization stack.

You will mentor senior scientists, collaborate with engineering and product teams, and communicate findings to executives while advancing high-scale, low-latency systems.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a quantitative field required, such as CS/EE/OR/Stats/Math.
  • 8+ years designing and deploying large-scale optimization or ML in production.
  • Strong math foundation in probability, convex/stochastic optimization, and control theory.
  • Production programming experience in Python/Java/C++/SQL or Spark.
  • Experience with AI pair-programming and developer automation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research, architecture, and production deployment of large-scale algorithms for budget pacing, bidding, and market balance.
  • Architect and lead AI workflows, agent-driven validation, and automated experimentation to accelerate iteration.
  • Define technical strategy and long-term vision for DSP optimization with leadership alignment.
  • Apply control theory and ML to real-time marketplace dynamics with uncertainty.
  • Direct AI-assisted code refactoring and automated testing suites to raise engineering standards.
  • Own multi-quarter research initiatives from theory to production rollout with clear metrics.
  • Collaborate with engineering/product teams to scale algorithmic designs, mentor staff, and communicate to executives.
