Job summary

Yahoo Holdings Inc. is seeking a Principal Research Scientist (IC6) to lead the next-generation budget control, pacing, and bidding algorithms for the Yahoo DSP Optimization team.

You will drive multi-quarter research initiatives, implement agentic AI workflows, and align with business leadership to scale optimization systems. This role emphasizes production-grade research, automation, and executive communication.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying large-scale optimization, control systems, or ML models in production.
  • Strong mathematical foundation in probability, convex/stochastic optimization, and control theory.
  • Proficiency in production programming languages (Python, Java, C++, SQL, or Spark).
  • Hands-on experience with AI pair-programming and developer automation tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex).
  • Ability to evaluate, refine, and validate AI-generated artifacts ensuring safety, accuracy, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research, architectural design, and deployment of large-scale algorithms for budget pacing, bid optimization, and marketplace balancing.
  • Architect and implement agentic AI workflows and automation to accelerate research-to-production iterations.
  • Provide technical strategy and long-term vision for the DSP optimization ecosystem with leadership alignment.
  • Apply optimization, ML, and control theory to real-time marketplace dynamics under uncertainty.
  • Direct AI-assisted code refactoring, automated testing suite generation, and LLM-driven research synthesis.
  • Own multi-quarter research initiatives from formulation to production rollout with rigorous metrics.
