Job summary

MITRE is seeking a Lead Agentic Software Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate mission-focused software systems and data platforms. You’ll apply AI-enabled methods, lead enablement, and establish guardrails for responsible use in a multi-domain environment.

You will work on architecture, production-grade systems, and rapid enablement tasks across domains, with a strong emphasis on secure coding, reviews, testing, and compliance.”

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and Python proficiency.
• Hands-on experience using agentic/AI-assisted development tools and integrating them into the SDLC.
• Experience designing guardrails for AI-enabled engineering.
• Experience establishing quality/evaluation practices for AI-generated outputs.
• Leadership/enablement skills: mentoring and engineering standards.
• Must have an active Secret U.S Government issued Security Clearance; Top Secret eligibility.
• On-site requirement: minimum 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, secure, and operate mission-focused software systems and data platforms.
• Lead enablement: mentor teams and advise stakeholders on agentic adoption.
• Define guardrails, evaluation gates, and compliant AI artifacts.
• Architect and operate distributed cloud systems (AWS/multi-cloud).
