Job summary

Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is seeking an expert Welding Engineer to support the NASA MSFC ESSCA contract. The role focuses on manufacturing large aluminum aerospace structures using fusion and friction stir welding.

You will develop welding techniques, lead projects, and collaborate with JSEG and customer engineers to resolve complex welding challenges. Responsibilities include establishing welding procedures, conducting R&D, preparing technical reports, and guiding production

Qualifications

  • Master's degree with 18+ years or BS with 20+ years of experience.
  • Experience manufacturing large welded aluminum aerospace structures.
  • Experience developing inputs into paperless MES and documenting nonconformances.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain permission to operate customer-owned vehicles and drive legally.

Responsibilities

  • Develop welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment.
  • Conduct R&D to develop or improve welding processes and equipment.
  • Prepare technical reports from research and development activities.
  • Establish welding procedures guiding production and welding personnel.
  • Evaluate new welding developments for potential production use.
  • Direct and coordinate inspections to ensure compliance with welding standards.
  • Serve as project lead engineer for welding development projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to resolve welding manufacturing problems.
