Job summary

KBR is seeking a Lead Accountant for SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting in Houston. The role leads the SEC reporting process, drafts disclosures, and coordinates cross-functional inputs to ensure accurate filings.

Strong technical accounting knowledge and communication skills are essential. The candidate should have CPA (or actively pursuing), a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, and 7+ years of relevant experience, with Excel expertise and familiarity with Workiva/Wdesk.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Experience with Workiva/Wdesk and Wdata preferred
  • Preferred 2+ years of Big Four experience on a public company client
  • Strong planning, organization, and deadline discipline
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and coordinate SEC reporting, including financial statements, footnote disclosures, MD&A, and tie-outs.
  • Draft footnote disclosures and supporting workpapers.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to draft SEC disclosures.
  • Research technical accounting matters and document conclusions.
  • Provide operational accounting support to business units as needed.
  • Maintain and update the accounting policy manual.
  • Coordinate with the SOX team to align the control environment.
  • Support earnings releases and related tie-outs of press releases.

Title

Lead Accountant, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting

Job Description
  • Prepare and coordinate key aspects of the Company’s SEC reporting function, including the timely preparation of financial statements, footnote disclosures, MD&A, disclosure checklists, supporting workpapers and tie-outs.
  • Also includes researching and assisting with drafting footnote disclosures.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the various groups and stakeholders to obtain the necessary information needed to draft the appropriate disclosures in the company’s SEC filings.
  • Research technical accounting matters and assist in documenting the Company’s accounting conclusions through technical accounting memos.
  • Provide operational accounting support to business units, as needed.
  • Maintain and enhance the Company’s accounting policy manual, including updates resulting from new pronouncements and/or operational changes.
  • Coordinate with the SOX team to ensure the manual remains aligned with the control environment, and communicate relevant changes across the organization.
  • Support the earnings release process, including review and tie-out of press releases and earnings presentations.
  • Support the consolidations process, including the review of balance sheet rollforwards used within the Company’s SEC filings.
  • Assist with tie out of the annual proxy statement.
  • Review XBRL tagging within Workiva for the Company’s financial statements and footnote disclosures.
  • Participate in various business process improvement initiatives such as expediting/streamlining a current business process by utilizing automation tools (e.g. – Wdata within Workiva).
  • Review FASB and SEC pronouncements to assess their applicability to the Company and assist with implementation of new requirements.
  • Other special projects as they arise.
Qualifications
  • Required Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience in lieu of a formal degree will be considered.
  • CPA or actively pursuing CPA certification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Workiva/Wdesk and Wdata preferred.
  • Preferred 2+ years of Big Four experience on a public company client strongly preferred
  • Strong attention to planning and organization with a demonstrated ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional team members at all levels of management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
