Job summary

Emerald Academy in Knoxville seeks an Upper School ELA Teacher (Grade 7) to lead literacy instruction and foster a college-bound, career-ready mindset. You will engage scholars with rigorous ELA curricula, leverage data to tailor lessons, and partner with families to support student growth.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Tennessee Teacher License with any needed endorsements.
• Must have an active TDOE Teaching License or completed the TDOE license transfer process prior to application.
• Must meet highly qualified status for the area(s) taught; teaching experience is valued but not required.
• Must possess a passion for the work and thrive in an innovative environment.
• Must work collaboratively to develop creative solutions for student learning.
• Must have demonstrated literacy expertise at grade level and beyond.
• Must demonstrate a growth mindset and flexibility to learn new methods.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver rigorous ELA lessons focused on mastery.
• Create a classroom climate with high expectations and perseverance.
• Communicate with families through calls, conferences and visits.
• Use student data to drive instruction, planning and decisions.
• Collaborate with Emerald Academy team to support student achievement.
• Develop processes for student self-assessment and monitoring.
• Document and summarize progress for students, parents and stakeholders.
• Utilize technology to manage data and enhance learning.
