Job summary

Phoenix Children's is seeking a Certified Lead Medical Assistant for the Dermatology clinic in Phoenix. This role leads non-licensed staff, coordinates workflow, and supports daily patient care in a busy dermatology setting.

The ideal candidate has CMA (AAMA) or RMA (AMT) certification, BLS, and 2+ years of MA experience in pediatric healthcare, with ability to supervise and train staff. Full-time, days, Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or MA certification from AAMA or AMT.
  • Two or more years of Medical Assistant experience in healthcare and/or pediatric healthcare settings.
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant from AAMA or Registered Medical Assistant (AMT). Lead MAs who served prior to 9/1/2019 must obtain certification within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Provides floor leadership to assigned clinic(s).
  • Responsibilities include appointment & schedule management, daily room oversight, daily staffing assignment, and compliance monitoring.
  • Leads and facilitates daily huddles for effective clinical and service operations.
  • Assists with direct patient care and can work as a Medical Assistant as needed.
  • Communicates effectively to families and co workers with a caring attitude.
  • Initiates first line service recovery when appropriate.
  • Assists with staff supervision and oversight.
  • Monitors staff competency and scope of practice, reporting concerns to the manager.
  • Monitors policies, procedures, and compliance of diagnostic tests, including follow up communication with patients.

Education

Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
MA certification from AAMA or AMT

Position Summary

The Lead Medical Assistant fulfills all duties of a Medical Assistant while serving as the primary resource and leader for non‑licensed staff within the dermatology clinic. The role functions as the day‑to‑day lead, coordinating workflow, patient care, and communication between clinical staff and leadership to ensure safety, quality, and process compliance. The Lead reports to the Manager, Ambulatory Business Operations and receives additional direction from the Clinical Manager, Division Chief, RN's, PA's and/or Physician Leads.

Position Duties
  • Provides floor leadership to assigned clinic(s).
  • Responsibilities include appointment & schedule management, daily room oversight, daily staffing assignment, and compliance monitoring.
  • Leads and facilitates daily huddles for effective clinical and service operations.
  • Assists with direct patient care and can work as a Medical Assistant as needed.
  • Communicates effectively to families and co‑workers with a caring attitude.
  • Initiates first‑line service recovery when appropriate.
  • Assists with staff supervision and oversight.
  • Monitors staff competency and scope of practice, reporting concerns to the manager.
  • Monitors policies, procedures, and compliance of diagnostic tests, including follow‑up communication with patients.
  • Performs quality audits as directed.
  • Facilitates completion of occurrence reports when needed.
  • Serves as a resource for onboarding and training of staff (preceptor course, peer leadership training, service excellence and patient flow expectations, and use of reporting tools).
  • Maintains interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration, reporting written or verbal documentation of concerns and suggestions.
  • Partners with peers and other leads, managers, and clinicians to ensure smooth patient flow and quality care.
  • Maintains credentials, certifications, and licensures.
  • Participates in conferences and meetings for educational growth.
  • Represents the department on organizational initiatives.
  • Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
Educational Requirement
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or possess MA certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists.
Experience Requirement
  • Two or more years of Medical Assistant experience in a healthcare and/or pediatric healthcare setting.
Additional Requirements
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant from AAMA or Registered Medical Assistant (AMT). Lead Medical Assistants who served prior to 9/1/2019 must obtain certification within one year (9/1/2020).
Certifications / Licenses
  • Basic Life Support – Required

Physical Requirements & Occupational Exposure
  • Physical requirements: climbing, sensing textures and temperatures, fine motor skills, hearing, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping/crouching/kneeling/crawling, talking, tasting/smelling, walking, vision, use of keyboard/mouse/computer, lifting up to 35 lbs; lifting more than 35 lbs occasionally.
