Job summary

The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in Washington, DC seeks an Executive Director to lead public policy outreach on marriage, life, and religious liberty, representing LCMS to lawmakers, media, and partners.

The role monitors federal and state developments, develops resources and communications, and builds coalitions to advance LCMS positions. It also leads fundraising, engages donors, and fosters a visible LCMS presence in DC to equip church leaders and members in public affairs.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Washington, DC policy landscape and Capitol Hill processes.
• Experience with nonprofit fundraising and donor relations.
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple initiatives under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop educational resources on the three foci for LCMS members and public.
• Communicate LCMS positions via print, web, and social media.
• Build coalitions and partnerships with like-minded groups.
• Lead fundraising initiatives and engage with Mission Advancement.
• Meet with Congressional staff, government officials, and religious leaders.
• Liaise with LCMS laity, congregations, and agencies to promote advocacy.
• Respond to media inquiries and submit op-eds as needed.
• Speak at LCMS-related conferences and events.
• Oversee DC office staff and activities to maintain a ministerial presence.
