Job summary

NS Giles seeks a Field Engineer/Construction Layout professional to perform line and grade surveying and prepare CAD-based layout documents on active projects in the United States. The role balances fieldwork with office time to verify contracts, drawings, and as-builts, ensuring adherence to tolerances, safety standards, and project schedules.

Responsibilities include creating CAD files, coordinating with project management, and maintaining field documentation while upholding NS Giles safety

Qualifications

  • Degree in construction related field and 3+ years of experience as Field Engineer/Construction Layout.
  • Must be fluent in reading plans, specifications, and related project documents.

Key responsibilities will include conducting line and grade work for specific jobsite layout and site control, maintaining and verifying accurate contract and electronic documentation, all while upholding work accuracy to ensure compliance with project tolerances. The role also involves reviewing various contract drawings to confirm proper coordination and installation practices. Additionally, you will prepare and complete project-specific as-built documentation and provide hands-on support for other assigned tasks as needed.Essential FunctionsPartners with Project Management and site Supervisors to confirm that proper procedures and policies are in place and are being executed to company's expectations.Perform and Record survey measurements utilizing specified survey equipment and proper documentation techniques.Assist in obtaining, evaluating, and coordinating all information needed to construct the project in accordance with the contract documents to assure that the work meets all tolerances, safety standards, and is within schedule requirements, all while being constructed to the highest level of quality possible.Create CAD files from contract documents to perform line and grade work for foundation layout and site control as required.Assist in the maintenance of contract documents and electronic CAD-based documents for field operations.Verify work as it is being placed to be sure it is accurate and within accepted tolerances.Review contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure proper coordination and installation procedures are followed.Perform and complete, job specific, project as-builts.May perform other duties as necessary or assigned.ResponsibilitiesMust possess the ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments in a fashion to keep up in a fast-paced work environment.Take initiative on clear communication between General Contractor, Site Supervisor, and corresponding survey teams on a given project.Notify the Safety Director of any specific safety requirements for new projects, supporting our key culture for safety.Take on other tasks and responsibilities as assigned to support project and company objectives as needed.Ensures NS Giles standards of safety and quality are adhered to by assertively championing NS Giles safety culture to project team.Represent NS Giles in a professional manner.Qualifications:Degree in construction related field, and a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Field Engineer/Construction Layout, or equivalent role in the construction industry. Candidates must have a solid understanding of the construction industry and job site safety requirements. This position requires a high level of fluency in reading plans, specifications, and related project documents. Prior experience operating and maintaining survey equipment (GPS, Robotic Total Station, Data Collectors, etc.) is not needed but preferred.Technical Skills: Procore, Bluebeam, CAD, MS Office SuitePhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are a representation of those that must be met by an employee, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The Field Engineer is regularly required to:Be a clear and professional communicator, while maintaining a positive attitude and team player mindset.Communicate with various forms of leadership: General Contractors, Superintendent’s, Foreman, Project Management, etc.Work and travel through varying adverse weather conditions.
