University of Nebraska College of Law seeks a Reference Librarian (Open Rank Professor) for the Schmid Law Library. This 12-month tenure-track faculty role supports student learning and faculty scholarship within a dynamic academic setting.

The role includes expert research assistance, teaching in the first-year program, and leadership in instructional/outreach initiatives, while developing LibGuides and bibliographies to advance research and learning.

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school and MLS/MLIS or equivalent by start of employment.
• J.D. and enrolled MLS/MLIS with completion within 18 months of hire.
• MLS/MLIS alone with substantial law librarian experience.
• Commitment to legal education, research, and law library services.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert research assistance and reference services to a diverse community including faculty, students, and the public.
• Teach in the first-year legal research program.
• Lead and participate in instructional and outreach initiatives.
• Develop law library resources such as LibGuides and bibliographies to enhance research and learning.
• Assume evolving responsibilities based on institutional priorities and expertise.
• Conduct or contribute to research, scholarship, and creative activity.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment.

Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from ABA-accredited law school

Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (ALA-accredited)

Current enrollment in MLS/MLIS program with completion within 18 months

Current enrollment in joint degree program with completion of J.D. and MLS within six months

Substantial professional experience as a law librarian
