Job summary

Northwestern Medicine's Law Intern Program in Contracts offers hands-on exposure to contracting, vendor negotiations, and regulatory considerations within the Contracting Services team. The internship runs 10–12 weeks in the summer, with a Director pairing to guide a 3-month project aligned to NMH's strategic objectives.

You will shadow leadership, conduct legal research, develop templates, and present a final briefing to senior leadership.

• Prepare and deliver a final presentation to senior leadership and the Contracting Services team summarizing the internship experience.

The Internship presents a valuable opportunity for 2nd year lawstudents to gain experiential education and for Northwestern Memorial Hospital to benefit from the service, skills and knowledge that law students can offer. The law students will be placed in the Contracting department and will be exposed to various vendors, contracts and negotiations. The internship is 10-12 weeks in length and is scheduled for the summer term only.

Interns are paired with a Director to complete a three month project aligned with NMH's strategic objectives.

The LegalIntern’s duties would include but are not limited to the following:

• Shadow and support Contracting Services leadership and Contract Managers in day-to-day contracting activities, including contract review and negotiations, while gaining practical exposure to contractual, legal, and business considerations.
• Conduct legal and contracting research and assist with Contracting Services resources and process-improvement initiatives, including development and maintenance of the Contracting Handbook, templates, reference materials, and negotiation guidance.
• Participation inInternship program activities including: shadowing, senior executive lunches, management meetings and orientation sessions.
• Prepare and deliver a final presentation to senior leadership and the Contracting Services team summarizing the internship experience, key learnings, and contributions

Required:

• Legal Interns must be enrolled in an accreditedprogram and have completed their second year by the start of the internship.
• Excellent communication skills, written and oral, including presentation skills.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
