Job summary

Williams Mullen is seeking a motivated Collections Specialist to join our Accounting Department in Richmond. You will manage client accounts, build strong attorney and client relationships, and drive timely payments while improving collections processes.

This role offers cross-training in client accounting and billing, exposure to law firm operations, and opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Minimum of three (3) years of collections, accounts receivable, billing, or client accounting experience required.
• Experience in a law firm, professional services, or financial services environment is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned portfolio of client accounts and reduce aged accounts receivable balances.
• Build relationships with attorneys, clients, and internal stakeholders to facilitate timely payment.
• Conduct collection calls, emails, and written correspondence professionally.
• Monitor payment arrangements and ensure compliance with terms.
• Partner with billing attorneys and accounting staff to resolve delays and collection challenges.
• Research and resolve billing discrepancies, unapplied cash, and payment-related concerns.
• Review and reconcile unallocated funds and trust balances for proper application or refund.
• Maintain detailed records of collection efforts and account activity.
• Prepare account analyses, status updates, and reports for attorneys, supervisors, and management.
• Recommend and support process improvements that enhance collection efforts and client service.
