Job summary

The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy seeks an instructional lead to design and deliver firearms safety, defensive driving, and related training for basic and advanced students, officers, and other groups. You will coach, assess, and update BLE and rifle courses, and support the Range Unit training programs.

Requirements include extensive firearms instructional experience and BID/LEO certifications; CDL is preferred. Willingness to travel for field training and incidents is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 8+ years of firearms instructional experience or
• Associate degree with 6+ years of firearms instructional experience or
• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of firearms instructional experience or
• Master’s degree with 2+ years of firearms instructional experience

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver approved instruction on firearms safety and defensive driving.
• Coach and safety officer during range and driving instruction.
• Lead shotgun, mover, and INCAP drills within BLE program and update as needed.
• Lead Basic Patrol Rifle and Patrol Rifle Instructor courses and update as needed.
• Assist with planning and support of all Range Unit training programs.
