The Laundry Worker role at State of California’s Department of State Hospitals – Napa welcomes applicants for full-time, permanent service. You will operate industrial laundry machines, inspect clothing and linen, and ensure cleanliness and proper distribution of apparel within a state hospital setting.

Job Description and Duties

DSH-Napa General Services is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Laundry Worker.

To meet the minimum qualifications, candidates should have at least two years of laundry experience. And experience ino perating washers, extractors, tumblers, sterilizers, andother equipment.

Also, people skills, excellent communication, dependability, and excellent attendance are highly desired. Laundry Workers will be inspecting clothing/linen for cleanliness, sort and distribute wearing apparel and clean equipment and work areas.

Working Conditions

Sufficient strength and agility to load, unload and operate industrial capacity laundry machines.

Understanding of and willingness to work with the patient/resident population of a State institution; personal cleanliness; freedom from communicable diseases; and ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.

Founded in 1875, Napa State Hospital is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness. Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital has a bed capacity to treat up to 1,362 patients on an attractive campus with treatment units located on 138 acres. Staff is dedicated and committed to delivering high quality, cost-effective, professional services and specialized programs in an environment that promotes continuous improvements in treatment for individuals with mental disabilities.

Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) accruals.
