Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Latin Teacher to join Joel Barlow High School, starting with the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will develop and implement curriculum aligned with the ACTFL standards, instructing students at various levels including AP Latin.

Applicants must have appropriate CT teaching certification, a strong knowledge base in Latin, and effective communication skills. Competitive benefits are included as per the Joel Barlow Education Association’s contract.

Qualifications

• Appropriate CT teaching certification, World Language (Latin) 7-12, (021).
• Familiarity with or willingness to pursue ECE certification.
• Strong understanding of the developmental needs of young adolescents.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement curriculum aligned with the ACTFL World Language Standards
• Instruct various levels of Latin, including AP Latin and ECE courses
• Demonstrate knowledge of teaching methods, materials, and educational practices for secondary school teaching of Latin
• Prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, use appropriate techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom
• Engage in ongoing professional development

Qualifications

• Appropriate CT teaching certification, World Language (Latin) 7-12, (021)
• Strong knowledge base in the Latin discipline and enthusiasm for teaching
• Strong communication skills
• Strong understanding of the developmental needs of young adolescents
• Familiarity with or willingness to pursue ECE certification
• Experience or interest in World Language curriculum writing and development
• Cross certification in additional languages experience preferred
