Job summary

Naples Classical Academy in Naples, FL seeks a full-time Latin Teacher to join a 10-month, salaried program. The teacher will instruct Latin, develop lessons, and assess students across grade levels, reporting to the Head of School.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree and demonstrate strong Latin proficiency. Florida educator certification is preferred or eligibility with plans to obtain certification within two years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university is required or expected to be completed before the start of the school year.
• Florida Educator Certification in the corresponding subject area is preferred or eligibility status acceptable with plans to obtain certification within 2 years.
• Knowledge of Latin language and classical education fundamentals is essential.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned Latin sections and use school curricular resources to write lessons.
• Deliver instruction through stories, poems, songs, and written/spoken language.
• Maintain classroom routines to foster a culture of learning and respect.
• Lead scholars with firmness and gentleness appropriate to their age.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and leadership.
• Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Hillsdale College K-12 curriculum.
• Collaborate with ESE to implement IEPs and support all learners.
• Manage student behavior and resolve conflicts promptly.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and related duties as assigned.

Position Overview:

Latin at Naples Classical Academy gives scholars experience with the language of the ages in the Western tradition. Learning Latin begins in wonder. Through stories, poems, songs, and the written and spoken word, they learn the foundations of the language which they will carry with them into the upper levels of their schooling. The Latin teacher is responsible for using the school’s curricular resources to write lessons and teach students through grade levels. A good candidate should have strong facility with the Latin language and be able to lead the scholars with the firmness and gentleness appropriate to their age.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to classical education and the vision, mission, and philosophy of the school and consistently develop, foster, and advance these principles in students
• Demonstrate an understanding and mastery of central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structure of Latin language and literature and effectively transmit this knowledge to students
• Develop and maintain a climate and culture of wonder, openness, justice, and mutual respect while modeling and reinforcing good judgment, prudence, virtue, self-discipline, and responsibility
• Engage every student in grade level-appropriate learning to promote intellectual and moral development and collaborate with ESE to implement IEPs
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, leadership and community members
• Develop and implement lesson plans according to the appropriate grade-level scope and sequence of the Hillsdale College K-12 Latin curriculum
• Manage the classroom primarily through the use of established routines and procedures to maintain a strong culture devoted to learning
• Manage student misconduct promptly and resolve conflict and crises effectively
• Maintain a professional development plan and engage in professional development activities
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Required- Bachelor Degree from accredited college or university (or graduating with a degree before the start of the new school year.)

• Preferred- Prior Teaching Experience

• Preferred- Possession of a Florida Educator Certification in corresponding subject area or Statement of Status of Eligibility showing eligible status in such subject area or desire to do so within 2 years of employment (NCA can provide information on obtaining the necessary cert for eligible candidates.)

• Preferred- Degree in subject or related discipline

• Required- Knowledge of subject area
