Job summary

CMI Group is seeking a CNC Lathe Operator for the night shift at our Phoenix, AZ facility to produce high-precision aerospace components. You will set up and operate Mazak lathes, perform daily machine maintenance, manage tools and offsets, and ensure part counts and safety compliance on a fast-paced line.

Applicants should have strong measuring skills (micrometers, bore gauges), GD&T knowledge, and the ability to hold tolerances to .0002"–.0005" while maintaining productivity.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5+ years' experience in precision CNC machining preferred.
  • Experience with Mazak machines is a plus.
  • Ability to read GD&T, inspect with micrometers, bore gauges.
  • Able to interpret G & M codes and basic programming knowledge is a plus.
  • Must be able to stand for the majority of shift and work 40+ hours.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes to produce aerospace components on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Perform daily machine maintenance and keep work area clean and organized.
  • Manage tools, offsets, and tool wear; replace worn or damaged inserts or bars.
  • Adhere to safety standards, FOD, and paperwork (MOT, inspection travelers, job sheets).
  • Maintain part counts and hold tolerances of .0002”–.0005” while staying productive.
  • Communicate issues to leads and suggest process improvements; report malfunctions.

CNC Lathe OperatorNIGHT SHIFT (20% Pay differential)Aerospace & Defense ManufacturingLocation: 3617 E La Salle St, Phoenix, AZ 85040 (40th St and Southern)Shift: Night ShiftREQUIRED: Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship or Valid Permanent Resident status is required.RESPONSIBILITIES:Setup & operate to produce high precision aerospace components on ferrous and non-ferrous materialsDaily machine maintenance (checking fluid levels, cleaning out chips, etc.)Maintaining a clean and organized work spaceTool management, entering in offsets to compensate for tool wear etc. Replacement of worn and damaged tools (inserts, boring bars. Etc.)Adhering to all company and industry safety standards and protocols. Understanding of industry buy-off requirements, company specific handling & FOD requirements, product identification requirements, filling out company paperwork properly (MOT, Inspection Travelers, Job Sheets, etc.)Maintaining correct part counts on the MOT for the operations performedAbility to hold tolerances of .0002” - .0005” while maintaining a high level of productivityAble to work independently and stay on task – operate 2 machines regularlyAbility to problem solve and communicate process improvement suggestions with managementCommunicate any job-related issues/questions (part feature, program, inspection, etc.) to lead personnel for resolution and or clarificationReporting all machine collisions and malfunctions to lead personnelRequired Skills/Abilities:Familiarity with Mazak machines a plusProficient with standard types of measuring inspection equipment to verify machined dimensions or product – Indicating Micrometers, Bore Gages, Sunnen Gage, & Test IndicatorsRead and interpret of B/P’s including assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, notes, abbreviations, GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing), and any other standard nomenclature per customer, government, or industry standards and following directionsAbility to read and interrupt G & M machine codes and program understanding is a plusExperience holding tolerances of .0002” - .0005” and surface finish requirements of 16 is a plusStrong attention to detail, quality-focused, and willing to learnGeneral knowledge of standard shop practices and equipmentBasic Qualifications:High School or GED5+ years’ experience preferred but not requiredAbility to use computer software, company ERP system, clocking in and out of jobs, etc.Familiarity with Mazak machines a plusFamiliarity with live tooling a plusMust be able to stand for the majority of the work shiftTeam oriented company with top paying wages and benefits in the valley in regards to the Aerospace Industry.
